Protect the local copy without overstating control
A stolen Google Drive credential or public sharing link can expose provider content even when a local Windows folder is locked. Review recipients, link settings, sessions, MFA and account recovery in Google Drive as separate controls.
An scholarship board administrator prepares a fictional scholarship-file package on an approved Windows review laptop, tests the relevant layer and keeps the working source separate.
Run the control sequence
- 01
List every active recipient and sharing link for the scholarship folder.
- 02
Remove unknown, expired or unnecessary access.
- 03
Require the appropriate account and MFA controls.
- 04
Review active sessions and recovery channels with the account owner.
- 05
Retest the link from an unauthorized browser and record the result.
Preserve decision evidence
Record folder, recipients, link type, expiry, download setting, MFA status, active-session review, owner and review date.
Stop when
- A public link is used for confidential contracts.
- Recipient identity or authority is unknown.
- Local protection is cited as evidence of provider-account security.
Keep secrets and unnecessary applicant data out of the decision record.
Separate local and provider controls
PC-side folder access is not provider-side encryption, Google Drive account recovery, sharing-link control, MFA, permission bypass, guaranteed backup or full-device security.
Local sync questions
Does local folder access control the Google Drive account?
No. Google Drive permissions, links, MFA, sessions and recovery remain provider controls.
Is sync an independent backup?
No. Test a separately stored recovery copy outside the same account and device failure domain.
